Welcome, Teachers!

The Ypsilanti District Library invites you to take advantage of the many resources available to enrich your students’ learning. We offer Classroom Cards, tours of the library, targeted collections for special research projects, and more. We want to support you in the classroom!

Services for teachers

Classroom Card

As an educator teaching in the YDL service area, you are eligible for a Classroom Card. Using this card, you can check out books for your classroom and even materials for your students.  Go to the Classroom Card application».

Book Bundle
If you provide the necessary information, such as grade levels, we will provide a collection of appropriate items including books on CD, nonfiction books, and DVDs all on a special theme you request, hand-selected by one of our youth librarians, to be checked out on your Classroom Card. Please give 5 working days notice. Go to our Book Bundle Request form»

Book Club Kits

Check out a set of books, plus discussion questions, to lead a book discussion with your class! Most kits contain 12 copies. If you need more copies, see a librarian about ordering through MeLCat. Go to our list of Book Club Kits»

Assignment Alert Forms

We can set aside materials on a specific assignment for your students when they come into the library, with 5 working days notice. Go to our Assignment Alert form »

Librarian at your staff meeting

We would love to discuss our services for 5 minutes during a staff meeting. Interested in collaboration on a community level? Bring us into the discussion to learn how the library’s staff and resources can support your goals.

Librarian in your classroom

We can booktalk, promote library events, demonstrate how to use the library’s online resources for projects, and more. One school recently had us come by to teach students about the history of Ypsilanti.

Librarian at your school

Invite us to open houses, special events, and parents’ meetings to talk about library services, highlight books children can really enjoy, and encourage reading in the home.

Guided tours of national exhibits
YDL hosts national, touring, educational exhibits and your class can have a guided tour by one of our librarians. This tour can also be paired with a general library tour. Past exhibits have included The Dancer Within and Wrapped in Pride: Ghanaian Kente and African American Identity. Librarians will be happy to tailor your class’s tour to specific Common Core Standards, with notice.

Library tours
The only cost is transportation when you bring your students to the public library to see what we have to offer them! We will design a tour with your class’s grade level and abilities in mind. Please schedule at least one month in advance. Go to our library tour page»

Purchasing Power
If you supply us reading lists 6 months in advance, we can ensure that we purchase those books or borrow them via Inter-Library Loan in time for your students to read them. This service is a perfect way to combat gap reading loss over summer vacation.

Bookmobile visit

We can work with a group of classrooms to arrange a visit by the bookmobile to your school. A librarian will give information on the bookmobile and library, read stories to your class, and allow time for browsing books.  We request a minimum of one month notice to set up a visit. Go to Bookmobile visit request form»
